Aw Joe, Say it ain’t so
A dusky Sand blows
Across a rioting town
Tears of confusion
Blowing the house down
Local boys are hiding
Afraid to walk the streets
A game of strategy falls
Deception floats to the top
Taking the emperor
Down
In the perfect little town
A line of little boys
Trapped in bodies of men
Stand alone watching
As the riots begin
Wondering where they stand
Safety no more now
Than it was then
As they push together
For a feeling of warmth
Another boy joins
A crowded little space
Of fear and pain
C’mon Joe say it ain’t so
Truth is what we yearn for
To help the children see
Once a happy valley
Filled with cold reality
Closed eyes opening
Blinded by glassy sand
We’re not even at the beach
How can this be our reality
I can hear the riots rocking
For an icon cut loose in a note
I know the pain of the children
Not believed not loved enough
By a place of fantasy perfection
And don’t think for one minute
That isn’t my nausea filled priority
To save the children from
Pants filled with sands of time
But I can’t help feeling sorry
For one very old Joe.
